Foolsfitness Silver Award

The first 25 pounds have been lost! 25 is silver right? Well I normally weigh in around Mondays but I couldn’t resist the milestone post. Now it’s real. Now I’m a proven. Now it’s no fluke! I’m trucking around 7 miles walking multiple days a week. Actually the weight loss is more like 26 pounds! (317lbs this mornings weight check)
BUT LETS TALK SHOES!!! Naturally all that walking is frying my sneakers. I go to the store and start looking at shoes. Sneakers come with all sorts of stuff now! Some of them have Gel inserts or little springs or airbags. One pair apparently has a little compartment for some gadget you put in to keep track of your walking. My only question is if it’s big enough to keep a Oreo Cookie in for “emergency use only” .
Now if you drive your car and have a triple A membership you can get a tow truck to come out if you get a flat tire. I’m wondering if any gyms offer a come to your jog site service if you get a sneaker airbag or gel blow out. As a heavy guy I can’t help but picture some freaky sneaker gel flying thing like a bad jelly donut.
Getting in shape is expensive. I can’t seem to find a lot of decent sneakers at the thrift shop. I was hoping the gym and extra sneaker cost would go about even with my offset cupcake budget. If this keeps up I’m going to have to cut back on all the Chinese Food Buffets to pay for some new clothes!
In other news… “the amazing shrinking girl” is celebrating her one year anniversary with a fitness challenge. Thus far I’ve got in 6.58 miles into it. Oh, and a Duncan Donut’s Chocolate chip muffin.
And remember at Foolsfitness it’s all about fancy footwear!-Alan

  1. Way to go on the Silver. As for the gel shoes I love them and have never had a blowout lol.

  2. Congratulations! You've done great so far and I'm sure the new sneakers will quickly carry you though another 25 - no, 26 - pound loss - and onwards, and downwards!
Did you go for the tracking gadget???

  3. Hey Fool, thanks for visiting my blog! And nice work on the 25!

I agree that weight loss is all about the gear, so I am going to tell you what you need to do next. Get an ipod if you do not have one already. Then go to and buy some shoes (in the clearance section) that are Nike + compatible. Then get the little sensor thing that you put in your Nike+ shoes. You will then have a lovely woman telling you exactly how far you have walked, how much farther you have to go, and what your pace is. Start saving your money now, you are going to love it. Maybe a reward for getting to 30?

As for the band, if you knew how many times I have gained and lost this weight over the past 25 years, you would understand. I think there is a plaque hanging at Weight Watchers headquarters with a picture of me on it and the inscription "Our Best Customer Ever."

  4. Congratulations on the 25 pound loss! You're exercising more and eating better -- and I'm proud of you for every bit of it.

  5. LOL I love the idea of a sneaker service. Get what feels good.

Congrats on the loss! You're doing so wonderful!

  6. Hi Alan. Congrats on the 26lb loss. Awesome as you Americans say!

I'm currently considering those type of trainers with a wobble board in the sole. On the other hand I wobble quite enough already, lol!

Maybe some proper walking boots would be more durable than trainers?

    Best wishes,
    Bearfriend xx

  7. You are just doing so well! I am so proud of you. Remember a while back when you seemed to be stuck. You weren't blogging and I was worried. Now look at you! You are walking everywhere and it shows! Thanks for sharing your journey and encouraging the rest of us to get moving! Silver is 25, but you are gold in my books!

  8. Wow! Congratulations on losing that first 25/26 pounds! That is absolutely FANTASTIC! I am SO happy for you! :)

Keep them miles coming! I got you down for 6.58.

  11. Woohoo time to celebrate! thanks for dropping by it was good to meet youxx Come again soon xx

  12. Congrats on hitting the 25lb mark! That's awesome.

Concerning BMI- I have never been at a healthy BMI in my life and am shooting at the high range recommended for my height. If I get there and I feel unhealthy, I will know that it's not right for my body and I won't feel one bit bad about maintaining at a slightly higher weight. BMI gives you a large range to accommidate differences in build. Also your gender changes your target range. Body builders will never fall into what is considered a healthy BMI-- they know that and aren't one bit sad about it. I am not a body builder, so I am gonna shoot for the high end of the BMI chart for now. But that weight and number is by no means how I will judge my personal health or success. I just won't know how it feels on my body until I have actually been there. Does that make sense?

  13. Great job on the silver! I know how expensive shoes can get. I need new running shoes it seems every 3 months. $80 or more just like that.

  14. Hi ho, Silver... and away go those pounds.
